Bellacana Vineyard

Nestled in the heart of Alexander Valley, Bellacana Vineyard spans 138 acres along both sides of the Russian River, an area renowned for its world-class winegrowing. For decades, we have been a trusted grape supplier to some of the industry's top wineries, consistently delivering fruit of exceptional quality. Our vineyard is more than just a place where grapes grow—it is a reflection of deep-rooted traditions, sustainable stewardship, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Terroir & Climate

Our vineyard is rooted in the heart of Alexander Valley, where the fertile valley floor’s topsoil meets rocky gravel just a few feet below, a testament to its proximity to the riverbed. These well-draining alluvial and loamy soils, rich in nutrients, provide an exceptional foundation for vine health and development, allowing for deep root penetration and resilience in varying vintages.

Rising above the valley floor at 1000 feet in elevation, our 13.8-acre hillside Cabernet Sauvignon block, Block 21, offers a striking contrast to our valley floor plantings. Perched on the rugged terrain overlooking the estate, this site benefits from leaner, rockier soils that naturally stress the vines, yielding smaller berries with intense concentration and structure.

Across both elevations, our vineyard is influenced by the cooling morning and evening fog rolling in from the Pacific Ocean, creating a balanced microclimate that fosters slow, even ripening. This interplay between valley floor richness and hillside intensity allows us to craft wines that capture the complexity and depth of our unique terroir.

Sustainable & Organic Practices

At Bellacana Vineyards, we farm with a philosophy that respects both the environment and our cultural heritage. We are certified sustainable and embrace organic farming methods, ensuring that our land remains fertile for generations to come. Estate composting plays a crucial role in our vineyard management, incorporating food scraps such as vegetables, coffee grounds, and fermented pomace from our winery and restaurant to naturally enrich the soil.

We take a hands-on approach to every aspect of farming, from careful pruning to controlled yields, all designed to enhance the quality of the fruit. Our low-intervention viticulture allows the vineyard’s natural ecosystem to flourish, supporting biodiversity and vine health.

Varietals & Vine Management

Our vineyard is planted with  Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon—each thriving under meticulous vineyard management. We pay close attention to every vine throughout the growing season, from canopy management to harvest, ensuring optimal fruit expression.

Winemaking Philosophy

Bellacana wines capture the essence of the land, reflecting the distinct characteristics of the vineyards where the grapes are grown. The team considers these vineyards their greatest assets, meticulously tending each vine while embracing a minimal intervention approach in winemaking. This philosophy allows the wines to showcase their natural complexity and purity, vintage after vintage. Grapes are hand-sampled and harvested at peak ripeness,  hand-sorted with precision, then cold-soaked for several days before fermentation with native yeasts unique to the vineyard. After fermentation, the wines are gently pressed and aged in carefully selected French oak barrels. Only the finest 2% of our grapes make it into the bottle, ensuring every sip delivers exceptional quality and depth of flavor. Our goal is to preserve the beauty of our surroundings while creating wines that truly express the complexity of our estate.
